Counselling
There are times in our lives when we become aware that things are not as we would like them to be. There may be obvious causes, such as difficulties at work, family issues, trauma, illness or bereavement, feeling anxious or depressed; or we may just be feeling ‘out of sorts’ and not coping as well was we would normally.
Humanistic counselling, which includes approaches such as person centred therapy, is led by you. The job of a counsellor is not to tell you what to do, but to help you listen to yourself. It is a judgement-free space where you can explore your own thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and be supported in working through the confusion or challenges to find out what you need.
Many clients find that simply ‘telling their story’ helps them to see things in a new way. Some clients find it helpful to use metaphors, dreams, visual images, scribbles or other materials. The counsellor suggest an activity, but in the end, it is up to you. The most important thing is that you feel safe enough to explore what matters to you in ways that work for you.
